No they finished 10th that season 2 places above Barnsley who finished 12th and then the season after they finished in 8th position…
quality miss our old times its all £ now. commentators exellant
never seen barnsley play fantastically good back then, the best game in their history during my time as a football fan along with other classic league and cup games ive seen clubs in 🙂
@Barkermush
My post looks like I’m not giving Barnsley any credit, which is not what I meant to do.
7-1 is an amazing win against any team in a League game, and what a stunning goal from Barnard.
Huddersfield were sh!t back then though wern’t they?
Sure they got relegated either at the end of that season, or the following season.. and they have been in League One ever since.
I think this proved that we are the number 1 footballing ‘town’ in Yorkshire 😉 even though it’s not in our name, we are all TARN4LIFE 😀

If Barnsley put their all into the Championship they’d get into the prem.
By the way, Vote for UKIP!

yeah, i rememeber that, We beat Sunderland 3-2 at SOL. ward got sent off missed a pen, and scored within 10 mins
hahaha
If they had appointed Dave Bassett instead of Hendrie Barnsley might have bounced back up at the first attempt, remember we made the play-off final the year after. Hendrie was a great player but it was a heart over head appointment at the time and it was the wrong one.
think we was unlucky coulda nicked it at the end
You’ve got the date wrong, it was on the night of Friday 27th November 1998. I remember it as I was there. In retrospect, the years between 1996 and 2000 were a golden era for Barnsley FC, and one which might not be recreated again, or at least not for a very long time. In April 1999 they sacked John Hendrie for finishing 13th and for getting to the quarter final of the FA Cup. How stupid that decision looks now, and what would they give to get back there today?
