Barnsley received a lot of criticism from the supporters in the recent 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Huddersfield. As a result, the club finds itself in the bottom of the table after 32 matches. They need to find at least two points if they are to get out of the relegation zone in the short-term. The match against Nottingham Forest during the weekend does not seem to be the ideal situation at this moment in time for Barnsley. Nottingham Forest are flying high in the table and are looking to seal a play-off place, which would take them closer to the Premier league.
Danny Wilson said ahead of this match that he wants the players to show that they are worthy of putting the shirt of Barnsley. It will be extremely difficult for the club, which has taken just one win in the last five matches. Even though next two matches at home for Barnsley, both of them will be against difficult opposition. After the Nottingham Forest match, they will welcome table leaders Leicester City to the Oakwell stadium. Wilson acknowledges that the team has to do exceptionally well if they are to come away with anything from these two tough matches.
However, they also cannot afford to allow the other relegation teams to pull up a lead over them in the table.
“The fans are passionate and have every right to be. When you get results like this, it’s not very easy to take. The fans wanted us to win; it was a derby game and you can’t argue with them. What we have to do now is respond to it and make sure we (show we) are proud to wear the shirt. I’ll make sure we are. With our next two games, I don’t think anybody will hold anything out for us,” said Wilson.
